Hitmen's Brandon Kozun Named CHL Player Of The Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Brandon Kozun of the Calgary Hitmen is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 14 after scoring eight points in four games including six goals and two assists with an impressive plus-minus rating of plus-8.

The Hitmen picked up four wins this week on the strength of two three-point games by Kozun. He scored his first career hat-trick as first star of the game last Wednesday night in Regina to lift the Hitmen to a 6-2 win over the Pats. He also produced three points on Sunday scoring a goal and two assists as first star of a 6-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Kozun also had single goal efforts last Tuesday as third star of a 6-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos, and Friday night as second star of a 3-1 win over the Prince Albert Raiders.

Kozun, a 19-year-old from Calgary, AB, is playing in his third full WHL season with his hometown Hitmen. A Los Angeles Kings prospect, Kozun was a member of Canada's National Junior Team and currently ranks second in league scoring with 30 goals and 54 assists for 84 points in 52 games.

Michael Latta of the OHL's Guelph Storm was also considered for the award after scoring five goals and four assists for nine points in three games highlighted by a four-goal game as first star of a 6-3 win last Wednesday night over the Plymouth Whalers. Brandon Hynes of the Victoriaville Tigres also scored five goals in three games with one game-winner and added three assists for eight points with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.
