Everblades Agree to Terms with Three More Players

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced today the team has agreed to terms with forward Trevor Bruess, and defensemen Kevin Montgomery and Deron Cousens.
Bruess, 25, joins the Everblades after spending the past two seasons in the Washington Capitals affiliation system with the Hershey Bears (AHL) and the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). The 6-foot, 192-pound forward registered five assists and 76 penalty minutes in 36 appearances with Hershey last season. During the 2009-10 season, he logged a goal and an assist in 14 games with the Bears, while also adding 25 points (8g, 17a) and 76 penalty minutes in 46 games played with the Stingrays. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native played three seasons at Minnesota State University - Mankato totaling 61 career points (24g, 37a) and 273 penalty minutes. Complete Stats for Trevor Bruess
"Trevor is a hard-nosed, tough forward, who can also play the role of sticking up for his teammates," said Poss. "Just like several of our guys, he brings American Hockey League experience to our team."
Montgomery, 23, tallied 26 points (4g, 22a) in 67 AHL games last season split between Lake Erie and Oklahoma City. In total, the 6-2, 188-pound defenseman has appeared in 142 games in the AHL from 2007-2011. He put together three productive seasons with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League amassing 96 points (12g, 84a) during his junior career. The Rochester, New York native played two seasons with the U.S. National Under-18 Team from 2004-06. He is also a fourth-round selection of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. "Kevin is a smooth 2-way defender who has excellent vision on the ice," said Poss. "He is also a guy who can be a solid contributor on the power play."
Cousens, 24, returns to the Blades this season after a six-game stint with the team last spring going scoreless and logging two penalty minutes. The 6-1, 190-pound blue liner played most of last season with Michigan Tech where he accumulated 21 points (2g, 19a). During his four-year collegiate career, the Georgetown, Ontario native totaled 52 points (9g, 43a). Complete Stats for Deron Cousens
"Deron is a good skilled and good skating defenseman," said Poss. "He added some good weight this summer, and we look forward to seeing him compete when camp opens."
The Everblades 2011-12 training camp opens on Friday. The team's first practice will take place tomorrow at 2:45 p.m. in the green rink inside Germain Arena.
