Evansville Otters News Release
(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) - The Evansville Otters have bolstered their starting rotation with the signing of right-handed pitcher Kyle Ocampo.
The Riverside, California native was drafted in the 13th round by the Texas Rangers in 2007, and the 23-year-old last threw for the Hickory Crawdads (Class A) of the South Atlantic League in 2010.
"Kyle was someone we were very high on last year when he was released by the Rangers," Otters manager ndy McCauley said. "He wanted some time off to work on a few things and is very excited to be returning to baseball. We look for Kyle to be at the front of our starting rotation."
Ocampo has a 4.04 career earned run average and a 2.30 strikeout to walk ratio. Kevin Cope, the Director of Player Personnel, likes Ocampo's versatility.
"Kyle took a year off and is ready to get back on the mound," Cope said. "He can hit 93-94 but will sit at the upper 80's, low 90's. He has experience starting and also coming out of the bullpen. Kyle will be a good addition to the team."
Opening Day for the Otters at historic Bosse Field is Friday, May 18, 2012, when Evansville hosts the Washington Wild Things. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT, and season tickets are on sale now.
