
RiverHawks' Kevin Smith Retires

LOVES PARK, Ill. - RiverHawks' first baseman through a large portion of the season last year, Kevin Smith, has announced his retirement.
Smith, 26, played in 31 games for the RiverHawks last season, batting .248 with three home runs and 13 RBIs.
From Bossier City, La., Smith attended LSU-Shreveport, where he played his college ball for the Pilots. Smith holds the Pilots' career record for batting average (.414), is second in career home runs (35) and third in career RBIs (161).
Out of college, Smith played for the El Paso Diablos of the American Association before finishing the 2011 season with the RiverHawks.
Twice last August, Smith was the hero for the RiverHawks with a walk-off home run that capped an eight-run comeback win over Normal August 8 and a walk-off single to beat the Windy City ThunderBolts August 17.
