
Evansville Otters Doubleheader Preview

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (19-11) look to bounce back from a splitting a doubleheader 1-0 (W)/6-2 (L) loss early Friday morning against Windy City as they welcome Traverse City back to historic Bosse Field for a three-game weekend series beginning with a doubleheader tonight.
In the Otters' second game of a scheduled doubleheader, Windy City jumped out to an early lead with a second inning double play that brought home a run.
Evansville tied the game in the second on a fielder's choice from infielder Cory Urquhart and then took a 2-1 lead with a Nik Balog RBI single to left field.
Windy City regained the advantage with a two-run single from Alex Chittenden in the fourth and a double steal later in the inning extended the advantage to 4-2.
Windy City added two runs in the seventh to seal the 6-2 win.
Pitcher Jake Raffaele (0-1) took the loss for Evansville, giving up four runs (three earned) in 3.2 innings.
Infielder Shayne Houck had two hits in the final game of the doubleheader.
In game one, Evansville won 1-0 behind a dominant outing from starting pitcher Trevor Walch.
After a rain delay of three hours and eight minutes, the Otters went ahead of Windy City on a first inning wild pitch.
That run would be all that the Otters needed as Walch went six innings, allowing just five hits and one walk. Edgar Lopez pitched a scoreless seventh for his seventh save of the season.
Efrain Nieves (3-1, 3.03 ERA) gets the start for the Otters on in Game One tonight. His last time out, he pitched seven innings on Saturday at Southern Illinois while getting a no decision. Nieves gave up just two earned runs on four hits while walking three batters.
Ian MacDougall gets the start for the Beach Bums in Game One. He enters the contest with a 4-0 record and a 3.09 ERA. In his last start Saturday against Joliet; he picked up the win after going seven innings while allowing two earned runs on eight hits.
Game Two will pit Will Oliver (3-1, 2.62) for the Otters versus Kramer Champlin (2-2, 2.96) for the Beach Bums. In his last start, Oliver threw on just three days rest and went six innings, picking up the win on Sunday against the Southern Illinois Miners by allowing just three runs.
Traverse City leads the season series against Evansville 2-1.
