Rascals Collective Pitching Leads to Win

River City Rascals News Release


Joliet, IL - The Rascals (18-12) won their series opener 4-3 over the Joliet Slammers (11-20) on Friday, June 19 at Silver Cross Field.

RHP Wil Schierholz made his first career start. He allowed one run, three hits, and a walk. He struck out one batter in 2.0 innings. RHP Marc Rutledge tossed 1.2 inning and surrendered one run on three hits and a walk while fanning two batters. RHP Derek Cape (W, 2-1) threw 1.1 inning and struck out three batters. RHP Chandler Jagodzinski allowed one walk over 1.1 inning, and RHP Zeb Sneed added 0.2 inning of relief. RHP Zac Treece tossed 1.0 shutout inning in his Rascal debut. RHP Heith Hatfield (S, 2) surrendered his first run of the season but earned his second save of the year.

The Rascals took 1-0 lead in the second inning. 2B Hector Crespo hit a one-out single, and RF Zach Kometani doubled to centerfield. C Jackson Slaid then hit an RBI groundout to score Crespo from third base.

Alfredo Rodriguez and Max Casper singled with one out in the bottom of the inning. J.D. Williams then hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Rodriguez to tie the game.

Rodriguez led off the fourth frame with a single, and Williams singled, advancing Rodriguez to third base. A double steal allowed Rodriguez to swipe home and take a 2-1 lead.

The Rascals responded with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Slaid singled, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored on a two-out single by LF Brian Hansen. Hansen then stole second and scored on a hit by DH Josh Ludy.

Hansen was hit by a pitch in the seventh and advanced to second on a groundout. 1B Danny Canela then singled home Hansen from second with two outs.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Hunter Ridge and Williams each singled. Following a bunt, Nate Roberts hit an RBI groundout and drove in Ridge from third base.

Joliet starter Andrew Stenge (L, 3-3) tossed 6.2 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits and four walks.

The Rascals and Joliet Slammers continued their series on Saturday, June 20 at Silver Cross Field at 6:05 CDT.
