EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats (0-1) are at home once again this Saturday night when they host the Ohio Valley Greyhounds (0-1) at Roberts Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05pm. This game is sponsored by Expressway Automotive.
Last Saturday, the BlueCats lost their 2007 season opener on a 43-yard field goal at the buzzer to the visiting River City Rage. The Ohio Valley Greyhounds lost at home to the Lexington Horsemen, 44-37.
Last season, the BlueCats won the season series with the Greyhounds two games to one, with the road team winning by two points in all 3 contests. Saturday's game will be the first of a three game series between the teams in 2007, and the only meeting scheduled to take place at Roberts Stadium.
BlueCats defensive back Tez Morris was honored by the league this week as an "Honorable Mention" for the UIF Special Teams Player of the Week. Last week against the Rage, Tez Morris made 3 solo tackles on special teams, and 4.5 tackles for the game. He also grabbed 2 interceptions as part of the Evansville BlueCats defensive unit.
In addition to Tez Morris, running back Ray Kirkley and defensive end Deion Holts had big games last week and look to be key contributors for Evansville again this week. Kirkley rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries against the Rage, and Holts made 5.5 tackles, forced and recovered a fumble, and recorded his first sack of the season.
The Gus Doerner Charity football toss returns this week. Before the game and during the first half, fans can purchase footballs to be "tossed" at halftime. Every football that lands in the BlueCats barrel at halftime will win a prize! All proceeds for the charity football toss will go to the nightly charity. Saturday's charity is the CJ's Bus Foundation.
Kickoff on Saturday will be at 7:05pm. The gates at Roberts Stadium will open at 6pm. The BlueCats invite fans to show up early and tailgate with your fellow fans. The halftime entertainment for Saturday's game will feature the Tri-State Tumbling Team.
