UIF Week Two Preview
March 30, 2007 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
Omaha, NE - In week one, only one home team came out on top, so in week two, the question will be, how many teams will defend their home turf? Who will win the "Battle of Champions," as the 2006 United Bowl Champion Storm travel to Montana to face the Billings Outlaws? The Outlaws were champions in another league last year.
RAPTORS (0-1) at EXTREME (0-0)
The connection between Raptors Quarterback Ben Sankey and his receivers will need to maintain its cohesiveness. As a team, the Raptors must stay collected as they gave up 110 yards on 12 penalties. After sitting out in week one, the Extreme will have the chance to start the season at home. Although he will be moving north of the border for the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats, defensive lineman Quince Holman will be available for the team's first six games. Holman was a leader once he came to the Extreme midseason last year finishing with 37.5 tackles, including 28 solos in eight games.
ICE (1-0) at BEEF (1-0)
Riding an emotional high after defeating the Outlaws, the Ice will have a strong order when they head into the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The story in this game will be how much, if any, playing time will newly signed Ice receiver and former Beef player Mike Jones see? Ryan Clement will have to buckle down and control the flow of the game better, as he threw one touchdown and three interceptions in week one. The Ice also won't be able to count on winning this one by a score of 26-25. Defensively, the Ice come in with a big line who will need to play hard-nosed football. When Omaha has the ball, look for Lawrence Pullen to be the main target.
STORM (1-0) at OUTLAWS (0-1)
In the "Battle of Champions," the 2006 United Bowl Storm will face the 2006 Indoor Bowl Champion Outlaws. Last week, the high-powered Storm offense led by James Terry and Leon Hall Jr. who both had two receiving touchdowns against the Raptors. The Outlaws fell short in their opener when Colorado kicker Deric Yaussi nailed a field goal late in the game. Billings has been called one of the toughest places to play in indoor football.
HORSEMEN (1-0) at RAGE (1-0)
The Horsemen are coming off a solid victory against the Greyhounds as the Rage enter week two winning on a 43-yard field goal. In order to come out on top, the Horsemen must have a strong run defense and get the penetration into the backfield to pressure Anthony Fisher. For the Rage, the key is continuing to build the chemistry between a mix of veterans and rookies.
GREYHOUNDS (0-1) at BLUECATS (0-1)
After falling last week against the Horsemen and RiverCity, both the Greyhounds and BlueCats look to rebound. The Greyhounds proved against the Horsemen that they have a very physical defense led by Edward Smith who had 11.5 tackles and broke up two passes. The BlueCats against the Rage also showed a strong defense getting one sack, two interceptions and one forced fumble.
