Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals defeated the Daytona Cubs in extra-innings for the second straight night, winning 3-2 at Roger Dean Stadium in front of 1,396 fans.
Terry Evans late inning heroics last night transferred over tonight, singling in Sean Danielson for the game-winner in the bottom of the eleventh. Last night Terry Evans ended the game with a walk-off homerun in the tenth. The Cubs gambled by intentionally walking Ryan Barthelemy two consecutive at-bats to face Evans and won the match-up in the ninth, but lost the battle with his final at-bat.
Daytona (8-13) gained the early lead in the third inning with Danny Gonzalez scoring on a Sam Fuld triple and he would score later on a Chris Patrick fielding error.
The Cardinals (14-7) tied things when Joe Mather hit a clutch two out RBI double down the left field line scoring Terry Evans. Evans put himself in scoring position by swiping his ninth bag of the season.
Mark Michael pitched six solid innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out and walking two. Michael was followed by three relievers, with Justin Garza (1-0) picking up his first victory of the season.
The win puts Palm Beach atop the Eastern Division standings, half a game above Brevard County.
