
ESPN SportsCenter "My Wish" Series to Feature Fire Midfielder Cuauhtémoc Blanco

BRIDGEVIEW, ILL. (June 30, 2008) - The Chicago Fire's Cuauhtémoc Blanco will be featured this week on ESPN's Sportscenter as part of the network's "My Wish" series which has been made possible by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Blanco's feature will will debut on Wednesday, July 2, at 5:00 p.m. CT on SportCenter, and run through the morning on July 3. ESPN Deportes' SportsCenter will present special Spanish-language editions of the series on Sunday, June 29, and Sunday, July 6.
Everardo Soto of Houston, Texas is the subject of the Blanco feature. He was one of five children with life-threatening medical conditions whose unique sports-related wishes were granted by the Foundation.
"It was an honor to meet with Everardo and his family and share some time with them," said Blanco. "I am glad that I can give those that are going through a difficult time some happiness and hopefully a special experience. It is always a pleasure to get to spend even a little bit of time with a fan, and it is special to me that getting to come here was special to him."
The series, a collaborative effort between the Make-A-Wish, ESPN and The Walt Disney Company, will feature other prominent sport figures such as - Ben Roethlisberger, Cleveland Indians Baseball Team, Shaquille O'Neal and former Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones.
Since 2006, "My Wish" has offered an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look at the wish-granting experience and featured wish children participating in sports-related activities with athletes such as: Major League Baseball's Derek Jeter, David Ortiz and Todd Helton, the NBA's Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade, figure skating star Michelle Kwan, NASCAR drivers Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, and the NFL's Tedy Bruschi, Drew Brees and Donovan McNabb.
