Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Beloit's offense gave starter Zack Erwin plenty of run support to pick up his fifth win of the campaign in the Snappers 7-1 win of the year. Erwin has turned in scoreless starts in four of his last five assignments. The Snappers seven-run effort was the 45th time Beloit has reached five runs in a game and are now 38-7 when they do so.

Erwin struck out a career-high nine Peoria Chiefs and held his opponent to just two hits in his sixth scoreless start of the year. He needed just 84 pitches to navigate through six innings before giving way to Heath Bowers out of the bullpen. Bowers ran his scoreless streak up to 20 2/3 innings before the Chiefs broke up the shutout in the ninth, the first run he had allowed since June 24.

Mike Martin finished the night 3-for-5 and led off the first, third, and fifth innings with base hits He also scored Beloit's first two runs of the game. The first was on a single from Josh Vidales, and he crossed home again in the fifth on a suicide squeeze dropped down by Luke Persico. Martin also stole third base in the first frame, his sixth steal of the homestand and his 20th of the season between his time in Beloit and Vermont in 2017.

Persico added a second RBI in the sixth and Miguel Mercedes drove home two on a single to account for Beloit's three-run sixth inning. A total of five Snappers recorded multiple hits in the game as eight batters had at least one hit.
