Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Clinton LumberKings 2-1 Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The win allowed the Rattlers to kick off a key seven-game homestand with a victory.

Wisconsin (44-63 overall, 18-21 second half) took the lead in the first inning. Joantgel Segovia singled and Zach Clark doubled to put runners on second and third. Keston Hiura hit a hard grounder to the hole at short for an RBI groundout and a 1-0 lead.

The LumberKings (46-60, 15-24) came back to tie the game in the top of the second inning on Billy Cooke's sacrifice fly to right with the bases loaded.

Neither starter would allow another run. Clinton starter Steven Ridings scattered a total of six hits over five innings and was helped out as two Wisconsin runners were thrown out at the plate. Rattlers starter Drake Owenby allowed two this, walked two, and struck out seven in his five innings.

Both teams had chances in the seventh inning against the opposing bullpens.

In the top of the seventh, the LumberKings had runners at second and third with no outs and the bases loaded with one out, but Thomas Jankins escaped the frame unscathed. In the bottom of the seventh, the Rattlers had runners at first and second with two outs, but Tim Viehoff got out of the inning with a strikeout.

The Rattlers took advantage of a pair of Clinton errors in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the lead. Wilson's grounder to third to start the inning was misplayed for an error. Ryan Aguilar moved Wilson into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. That would end the night for Viehoff and Wyatt Mills entered the game from the LumberKings bullpen to face Ronnie Gideon.

Gideon sent a grounder to the right side on a 3-0 pitch from Mills and first baseman Nick Thurman fielded the ball cleanly. But the throw to first was wild and Wilson scored the go-ahead run.

Jankins worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out the LumberKings. Jankins, who pitched four scoreless frames in Thursday's game, is now 7-6 and has picked up a win in each of his last four appearances.

The Timber Rattlers and LumberKings continue their series on Thursday night. Game time is 7:05pm.
