
Late Outburst Leads Loons to Victory

LANSING, Mich. - The Loons offensive churned to life late on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field, scoring six runs over the final three innings in an 8-2 win over the Dayton Dragons before a crowd of 8,526.
Left-handed hitters Jared Walker and Gavin Lux homered for the Loons (18-21; 54-54), who improve to 3-2 on their seven-game road trip. Dayton (13-26; 54-55) has lost five games in a row.
In his Loons debut, right-hander Carlos Felix (W, 1-0) pitched a career high six innings and allowed six hits with two runs, one walk and four strikeouts. The 21-year-old allowed a solo home run to former Brewers farmhand Malik Collymore in the second inning to give Dayton a 2-1 lead. Felix threw six innings for the second time in his career and first since August 20, 2014. Both six-inning outing for Felix have occurred against Reds' affiliates.
Righty Melvin Jimenez, 18, pitched the final three innings for the Loons and earned his first career save. Jimenez has not allowed a run in 10 innings with the Loons this season. He struck out six and walked two on Wednesday night.
Walker's home run in the seventh inning gave the Loons the lead for good. After a four-game stint with Rookie-Advanced Ogden, Walker returned to the Loons lineup on Wednesday and delivered two doubles, a home run, three runs scored and three more batted in. The former fifth-round pick in 2014 by the Dodgers has five homers with the Loons this year and nine on the season.
Lux, the 20th overall pick in the 2016 draft now has seven homers on the season and three in his last four games.
The Loons face Major League right-hander Anthony DeSclafani in game two of the series on Thursday at 7 p.m. DeSclafani makes a rehab start for the Cincinnati Reds, and is the second big-league arm from the Reds to start against the Loons this season. Righty Homer Bailey started against the Loons on June 14 and allowed one hit and hit a batter in six innings with six strikeouts. Pregame coverage starts at 6:30 on ESPN 100.9-FM.
