MADISON, Alabama - Despite a solid start on the mound, the Rocket City Trash Pandas defense struggled and the offense was shut down by a trio of Birmingham Barons pitchers in a 6-0 loss in the third game of their six-game series on Thursday night at Toyota Field.

Trash Pandas starter Landon Marceaux began the game in fine form by striking out the side in the first. In the bottom of the frame, the Trash Pandas put a couple runners aboard, but a double play got Birmingham starter Chase Solesky through the inning unscathed.

In the second, Birmingham catcher Xavier Fernandez reached with a one-out double. He moved to third on a single from Taylor Snyder. Marceaux then threw a pitch that just got away from Trash Pandas catcher Edgar Quero. Fernandez looked to score and slid in under the tag from Quero to open the scoring.

The Barons got one more in the fifth on an RBI single from Tyler Neslony. The fifth would be Marceaux's (L, 2-4) final inning. Over five innings, he allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Solesky was pulled after four scoreless innings in favor of Jonah Scolaro in his Double-A debut. Rocket City quickly loaded the bases against him with a single and two walks. But Aaron Whitefield lined into a double play and Orlando Martinez's fly ball was caught on the warning track to keep the Trash Pandas off the board.

Luke Murphy pitched a scoreless sixth to keep the deficit at two. However, the Barons put the game out of reach for good in the seventh. Three Rocket City errors, coupled with an RBI single from Luis Mieses, led to three Barons runs to extend the lead to 5-0.

Kolton Ingram pitched a scoreless eighth and Brandon Dufault ended the game on the mound by allowing a run in the ninth.

Scolaro (W, 1-0) shut down the Trash Pandas offense for 3.2 innings, striking out five to earn the win. Hunter Dollander entered with a runner on and two outs in the eighth and struck out Ryan Aguilar to end the inning. He finished the Barons' second straight win with a scoreless ninth.

In the field, the Trash Pandas committed a franchise record six errors. Flint was the only Rocket City player to record a multi-hit game for the second straight night, going 2-for-4.

The Trash Pandas (17-19) continue their series with the Barons (13-23) on Friday night. First pitch at Toyota Field is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Josh Caray will be on the call for 103.9 FM THE UMP and 730 AM SportsRadio. The game will be broadcast locally on WAAY 31.6, This TV.

Following Friday night's game, a stunning fireworks show will light up the sky above Toyota Field, presented by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
