FORT WAYNE, IN - Great Lakes Loons catcher Pratt Maynard threw errantly down the right field line attempting to pick Mike Gallic off first base in the eighth inning to bring home the go-ahead run Saturday night in a 5-4 victory for the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The game was played in front of a crowd of 7,801 at Parkview Field.

Gallic led off the eighth with an infield single off the tip of the glove of second baseman Pedro Guerrero. Maynard fired down to first base after a pitch home from reliever Yimi Garcia, but his throw sailed past first baseman Jesse Bosnik. Right fielder Nick Akins moved towards the line to try to cut the ball off but the ball got past him and traveled into the corner. Gallic, who dove back to first base, got up and made it all the way into the plate to break a 4-4 tie.

The Loons got a two-out single by Gabriel Suarez in the ninth inning but could not push across the tying or go-ahead runs.

After Fort Wayne took a 1-0 lead, the Loons pushed across two in the fourth inning. After back-to-back walks to O'Koyea Dickson and Scott Schebler and a single by Pratt Maynard to load the bases, Akins doubled to left to bring home two runs and give the Loons the lead. Great Lakes tacked on one more run the next inning with an RBI single by Schebler scoring James Baldwin, who had walked and stolen second.

Fort Wayne tied the score against Loons' starter Raydel Sanchez with a solo home run by Kyle Gaedele and an RBI single by Gallic, both in the fifth.

The two teams exchanged sixth inning runs. Pedro Guerrero singled home Akins. Then with two outs in the bottom half of the inning, reliever Juan Noriega surrendered a triple to Lee Orr over Akins' head. Then Felix Cabrera singled home Orr.

The loss extends the Loons' losing streak to three, while the TinCaps snapped a two-game skid with the win.

Akins finished the game with three hits.

Daniel Cropper (5-1) worked a scoreless eighth inning to pick up his fifth win. Garcia (4-3) was the game's loser, despite surrendering an unearned run in the eighth. Matt Stites threw a scoreless ninth inning for his ninth save of the season, lowering his ERA to 0.53.

The Loons (16-18 second half, 50-54 overall) play the second game of a three-game series against the TinCaps (20-14, 51-53) Sunday at 3:05pm. Left-hander Miguel Sulbaran makes his Midwest League debut for the Loons. The 18-year-old was 1-0 with a 1.51 ERA in seven games for the Arizona League Dodgers this year. Righty Matt Wisler (4-4, 2.45), fourth in the league in ERA, will start for the TinCaps. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.
