Erie's Jake Rogers homers in the 9th to send Fightins home with loss

(Erie, PA) - Erie SeaWolves (18-24) catcher Jake Rogers hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth against Reading Fightin Phils (15-25) reliever Tyler Viza (0-3) to win the game, 4-3. The Fightins dropped three out of four against the SeaWolves.

The Fightin Phils took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jan Hernandez scored on an infield single by Damek Tomscha and throwing error by SeaWolves second baseman Will Maddox. Reading scored two more runs off Erie's Kyle Funkhouser in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Hernandez hit a RBI single while Tomscha added a sacrifice fly.

Erie got a run off Reading's Elniery Garcia in the bottom of the third inning. Sergio Alcantara hit a RBI single to score Danny Woodrow to cut Reading's lead to 3-1. The SeaWolves got another run off Garcia in the bottom of the fourth inning as Dominic Ficociello hit a RBI single to score Gabriel Quintana.

Garcia left the game with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning and the bases loaded. Ranfi Casimiro came into the game and got Blaise Salter to end the inning by grounding out to shortstop.

Ficociello tied the game at 3-3 off Casimiro with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning as he hit his second home run of the season. Casimiro left the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Joey DeNato entered the game to pitch in relief of Casimiro.

Erie's Zac Houston (1-1) got the win as he pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
