Oshawa, On - Earlier today the Flint Firebirds announced the appointment of Eric Wellwood as the new Associate Coach.

Eric coached two seasons with the Generals, where he won an OHL Championship and a Memorial Cup. Prior to joining the Generals, Eric played four seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers and the AHL's Adirondack Phantoms. He played four seasons with the Windsor Spitfires, winning two Memorial Cups.

His transition from player to coach has been seamless, playing a major role in shaping impactful players such as Anthony Cirelli, Mitchell Vande Sompel, Cole Cassels and Michael Dal Colle. Eric will bring a long resume of success to the Flint Firebirds organization.

"The OHL strongly believes in developing both players and coaches and the Generals are known for our ability to recruit and grow strong coaches like Eric," said Vice President and General Manager of the Oshawa Generals Roger Hunt. "We want to see our players, coaches, and business staff all take the next step and Eric is the most recent in a long line of personnel to achieve this from the Oshawa Generals Organization."

"While I am looking forward to joining the Flint Firebirds organization, I consider Oshawa a second home and will miss the Generals' fans and the great game day atmosphere," said Eric Wellwood. "I want to thank Generals organization for giving me the opportunity to be on the bench with such a good group of players."
