Enforcers Continue to Search for First Win

The Elmira Enforcers went into their fourth game of the regular season still searching for their first win. After failing to complete the comeback in their previous game the night before, they were hungry for a win in Game 2 of a weekend bout with the Carolina Thunderbirds.

The first period started out with both teams battling for the puck and a lot of back and forth skating, but early on there was plenty of action. Early in the first period Elmira was able to strike first with Brandon Vuic rebound from Cameron Yarwood's shot from the side boards . Not to be left behind though, Carolina would strike back less than two minutes later with some beautiful stick work and some timely passing as Josh Pietrantonio was able to put the puck in the net. The teams goalies would stop plenty of shots in the first period, ending the first 20 minutes with the game tied 1-1.

The second period was once again a back and forth battle for the puck. Carolina would slowly begin to manage the puck better as the period drew on, and they began to pepper the Enforcers goalie Troy Passingham. Passingham was up for the challenge though, facing an astounding 21 shots in the 2nd Period and not allowing a goal. The two teams would begin to get a little chippy and an Enforcers player was called for roughing late in the period, but the Enforcers penalty kill remained strong and the game stayed knotted at 1-1.

The 3rd Period of this game was where things would take a turn for the worst for Elmira. Carolina would come out with a new intensity to start the last period, and they would score early on off of a repeat goal which almost perfectly mimicked the Elmira goal in the first period. A Carolina defensemen took a slap shot from deep in the offensive zone and the puck would deflect off the boards right in front of the net for a perfect rebound opportunity for Chase Fallis. Penalties would hurt the Enforcers in the final 20 minutes as the goal that came early on was on the power-play. Late in the final period with just seconds left, Everett Thompson would bury the puck on the Enforcers empty net to seal the deal for a 3-1 win.

Elmira will still be in search for their first win when they continue this long road trip and travel to take on the Port Huron Prowlers next Friday and Saturday, November 9th and 10th. Elmira falls to 0-4 in their inaugural season, and will have to wait two more weeks before playing in front of their home crowd for the first time.
