Emeralds Win 5th Straight in Everett
April 14, 2024 - Northwest League (NWL)
Eugene Emeralds News Release
The Emeralds for the 3rd straight night were able to rally from a deficit in the late innings to take their 5th straight game against the AquaSox. The Emeralds now move to 7-1 on the season and sit 1 game back from the 8-0 Spokane Indians.
For the 4th straight game the Emeralds were able to get the runs started in the 1st inning. Zach Morgan hit a sac-fly RBI to score Diego Velasquez to give the Ems the lead. The lead didn't last long however as the AquaSox scored a pair of runs in the 1st and 2nd inning.
The next 3 frames were scoreless for both ball clubs, but in the 6th inning the Emeralds were able to get on the board. Onil Perez drew a walk, Justin Wishkoski & Tanner O'Tremba drew a walk with two outs. That brought up Justin Bench to the plate in a big-time spot. He ripped a single out to left field and both Perez and Wishkoski were able to score on the play. O'Tremba tried to score from first and there was a great relay throw in and Ty Duvall was just able to get the tag on him to prevent the game tying run from scoring.
It was a scoreless 7th inning for both ball clubs before the Ems stepped into the box in the 8th inning. Zach Morgan hit a leadoff double out to left field and Thomas Gavello was able to draw a walk after him. After Wishkoski hit a pop-out, the runners did a double-steal to put both of them in scoring position. Tanner O'Tremba then drew a walk to load up the bases once again. Justin Bench hit into a fielder's choice to score Morgan on the play and tie up the ballgame. Andrew Kachel then stepped into the box and with two-outs he roped a single to the outfield that scored a pair of runs and gave the Ems a 6-4 lead.
In the bottom of the 9th the Frogs scored 1 run but weren't able to do anything else and eventually fell by a final score of 6-5. Nick Morreale & Ben Madison were stellar out of the bullpen tonight as they combined for 6.1 innings of work and allowed just 2 hits and 1 unearned run. They walked 4 and struck out 8 batters. Madison earned the victory tonight after pitching the final 3 frames. He now has a save and a win this week for the Ems.
The Ems sit at 7-1 on the season and they'll have a chance to sweep the AquaSox tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 4:05 P.M. It'll be the final game of this 6-game road trip in Everett before the Ems head home tomorrow night and gear up for a 12 straight home games that start next wednesday.
