Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release
HIDALGO, TX: March 16, 2005 â The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 obtained a defensive specialist with league experience, as the af2 assigned Elliott Burkes to the Dorados.
"Elliot is known as a good cover man with speed," said Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. "He has the size and strength to boost our secondary."
Burkes joins the Dorados after spending last season with the af2's Macon (Ga.) Knights. Despite appearing in just five games due to injury, Burkes still ranked ninth on the Knights squad in tackles with 14 (12 solo). The Camilla, Georgia native led the team in interception return yards with 32 yards off of two interceptions (ranked tied for third on the club) and ranked tied for third in pass breakups with 5. The All-Gulf South Conference (GSC) selection was part of the Valdosta State squad that lost in the NCAA Div. II National Championship game to Grand Valley State 31-24 in 2002. The 25 year-old Burkes prepped at Mitchell-Baker High School in Camilla, Ga.
