June 23, 2013 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release
Sloppy baseball was the theme of the day Sunday as both teams combined to commit six errors in the game, but despite the 4 opportunities, the Bend Elks were unable to come through with the big inning, leaving 10 men on base and falling to Victoria 3-2.
The Elks (12-6) got on the board first in the top of the 3rd inning as Keach Ballard, who went 3-4 on the day, doubled and came around to score on a pair of errors on the play, giving the Elks the early 1-0 lead.
Victoria (10-4) notched the score at 1 each in the bottom of the 4th inning off of Elks starter Scott Kinzler as Jordan Ellis walked, advanced and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Chris Lewis, the last hitter on the day Kinzler would face. Scott pitched 3 and 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits and walked one in earning the no-decision.
The Elks once again took the lead in the top of the 5th inning as Chase Fields singled with one out, advanced to second base on an error by Victoria 1st baseman Robby Nesovic, and would come around to score on the RBI single from Tyler Servais, making it 2-1 Bend.
That would remain the score until the bottom of the 6th inning, as 2 base hits, a walk, and a wild pitch, all with two outs, allowed a pair of runs to come around against Adam Grantham, who was charged with the loss in the game.
In the top of the 9th inning, Landon Cray singled with one out to give the Elks a chance. After Fields was retired for out number two, Seth Spivey singled, Grant Newton came on as a pinch hitter and reached on an error by second baseman Zach Storm to load the bases with two away, but Tyler Servais flew out to center field to end the game.
The Elks are off Monday as they return back to Bend to begin a long homestand, beginning Tuesday as the Corvallis Knights come to town, first pitch Tuesday scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
