Bend Elks News Release

The Bend Elks went 8 and 1/3 innings before Toby Demello delivered a pinch hit double in the top of the 9th to break up Kitsap starter Richie Mascheri's no hit bid in the top of the 9th, but the Elks couldn't manage much off of it as they fell to the Kitsap Blue Jackets by a score of 3-1.

The game was a pitching duel early as both pitchers had no hitters through 3. Then in the bottom of the 4th, Elks starter Nate King ran into control problems, as he led off the inning issuing back-to-back walks. Then a single loaded the bases with one out. Then a single by Evan Busby would plate a run, then the third walk issued by King in the inning would plate a 2nd for the BlueJackets, giving them a 2-0 lead. Kitsap would add a 3rd in the bottom of the 6th as a leadoff was issued to Andrew Biancardi, ending King's night. Jason Wilson would come on to issue another walk and a hit by pitch to load the bases with one out. Then a single by Kitsap second baseman Chris Murphy would plate a run, giving the Blue Jackets a 3 run lead which would prove to be more than enough.

The Elks finally got in the hit column in the top of the 9th as Demello delivered a 1 out double in the top of the 9th, advanced to third on Shawn O'Brien's pinch hit flyout, then scored on an RBI single from Donald Collins. Then a walk by Derek Blankenship would would end Mascheri's night, who went 8 and 2/3, giving up 2 hits, 1 run, walking 2 and striking out 5. The Elks would load the bases after a walk was issued to Royce Bollinger by Kitsap reliever Nick Altman, who would only face Blankenship on the night. Then BlueJackets closer Matt Cartwright came on to face Bo Walter, and got Walter to fly out to right to end the game.

The Elks will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow against the Blue Jackets, first pitch scheduled for 5:05.

Elks Split Squad gets 14 hits, split 2 game series with Brewers with 12-7 victory.

The Bend Elks split squad rebounded Saturday night to defeat the Tumwater Brewers, thanks in large part to a 7 run first inning in which the Elks sent 11 hitters to the plate. The inning was highlighted by an RBI double from Taylor Noyer, and RBI singles from Joe Carroll and Zach Close. The Elks would go on to add a run in the 3rd and 2 runs a piece in the 4th and 5th innings thanks in part to costly errors from the Brewers, who would commit 6 in the game.

The Elks had to overcome 6 errors of their own in victory and hold off a late rally by the Brewers who would score 3 runs off of Elks reliever Kurt Jahnke, all unearned, to finish their scoring on the night. Jeff Brigham threw a scoreless 9th to end the game for the Elks Split Squad, who will be in action tomorrow at Corban College facing Baseball Northwest, first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. The Elks Split Squad will return home for $2 dollar Tuesday and Free kids Wednesday this Tuesday and Wednesday, first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. on both days.
