Bend Elks News Release

Klamath Falls, OR - For the 2nd consecutive night, the Bend Elks outhit the Klamath Falls Gems in defeat, as the Bend Elks managed only 2 runs against Gems starter Brandon Horth, losing by a score of 5-2 and splitting the season series with Klamath Falls.

The Bend Elks were on the board first in the top of the 2nd inning as Tyler Servais lead off the inning with a single, and Keach Ballard drove him home with a 2 out RBI single, giving the Elks the early 1-0 lead.

The Gems (19-20) responded by capturing the lead in the bottom of the 3rd as Cody Hough reached on an error and Dylan Rogers followed with a 2 run home run, his 4th of the summer, giving the Gems a 2-1 lead.

Bend (23-16) responded in the top of the 4th inning as Cullen O'Dwyer drew a 2 out walk, Kyle Giusti doubled, and Ballard followed with his 2nd RBI single of the ballgame to tie the game at 2.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Gems would capture the lead for good against Taylor Elman (4-1) who lost his first game in a Bend Elks uniform. After giving up a leadoff single to Cam Newell, Michael Tittle dropped down a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away by Elman, and back to back walks issued to Cole Trezek and Tyson Dahl forced in Newell, giving Klamath Falls the 3-2 lead.

That would be more than enough for Klamath Falls starter Brandon Horth(4-1) who pitched 8 quality inning for the Gems, giving up 2 runs on 8 hits, walking 2 and striking out 10 Elks hitters to earn the victory. The Gems tacked on 2 more in the bottom of the 6th inning against reliever Clay Gartner, the big blow in the inning being a 2 run single from Ryan Clark to give the Gems the 5-2 margin of victory as the Elks dropped 2 straight after ending the 1st half on a 3 game winning streak, falling out of 1st place with the Corvallis Knights defeating the Medford Rogues.

The Elks will begin a 6 game homestand on Saturday with 3 against the Wenatchee AppleSox and 3 against the Cowlitz Black Bears, first pitch for Saturday set for 6:35 p.m.
