Elks battle Knights, fall in close fought game 4-1
June 18, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks looked more focused and played well on Monday night, but an untimely walk and solid pitching from the Corvallis Knights were the Elks downfall, as they fell by a score of 4-1.
Danny Chavez had a solid start for the Elks, pitching four strong innings in getting the no-decision. He gave up just one run on four hits while striking out two before reaching his 50 pitch limit.
Offensively, the Elks had their opportunities as they left two runners at third base in the game, seven overall, and squandered their best opportunity in the fourth inning. Taylor Ausbun from the Air Force Academy was caught in a run-down with a runner on third and one away, but while in the run-down, Bo Walter tried to score, and was tagged out for the second out of the inning. While that happened, Taylor tried to reach to third base, but was caught in-between second and third to end the inning with no runs.
Offensively for the Elks, Bo Walter went 2-4 with an RBI triple, Ryne Clark went 1-4 with a double and scored a run, and Steven Halcomb added two more hits for the Elks, who are now on a 3 game losing streak.
The Elks will play tomorrow in non-conference action on $2 Tuesday before beginning a 3 game series at home against the Kitsap Blue Jackets on Free Kid Wednesday, sponsored by Premier West Bank.
