Billings Mustangs News Release
BILLINGS - Left-handed pitcher Elijah Gill has earned the Pioneer League North Division Pitcher of the Week award after two excellent starts in the first week of the second half.
Gill is the second Mustang in a row to earn pitcher of the week honors, after right-hander Kelvan Pilot was honored last week.
Gill made two starts against the Great Falls Voyagers this past week and turned in arguably his two best outings of the season. The southpaw went 1-0 over 13.0 innings, allowing just one run on ten hits while striking out 15 and walking four as the Mustangs won both of his starts.
He threw a season-high 7.0 innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts on Tuesday and followed it up by working 6.0 shutout innings and striking out a season-high eight batters on Sunday.
This season, Gill has gone 2-0 over eight starts with a 2.36 ERA. He has worked 46.0 innings and struck out 36 against 14 walks while posting the lowest ERA among all PL pitchers who have worked at least 30 innings. He also has pitched at least five innings in each start.
Gill is the fourth Mustang to earn Player of the Week honors this season and the third pitcher. Jalen Garcia won co-Player of the Week honors, followed by the Pitcher of the Week nods for Jean Correa and Pilot.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they begin a six-game series in Greeley, Colorado against the Northern Colorado Owlz with first pitch at 4:00.
