Tacoma Rainiers News Release
EL PASO, Texas - The Tacoma Rainiers (35-30) took their third straight loss on Thursday night at Southwest University Park, a 5-1 decision against the El Paso Chihuahuas (33-34).
El Paso jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning - a solo home run off the bat of Ryan Schimpf kick started the Chihuahuas scoring outburst.
Center fielder Leonys Martin stroked a two-out double to the gap in right center and came in to score on a Gordon Beckham single to score the Rainiers only run of the night in the third inning. It cut the El Paso lead down to two runs at 3-1.
The Chihuahuas moved their lead back out to three runs in the bottom of the third and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh, creating the final margin of 5-1 in favor of El Paso.
Rainiers starting pitcher Andrew Moore (3-1) suffered the first loss of his Triple-A career. He allowed four runs on seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work.
Ryne Harper (1.0 IP) relieved Moore and allowed one unearned run on one hit before giving way to Jean Machi (1.0 IP), who wrapped up the night with a scoreless eighth inning.
The Rainiers and Chihuahuas wrap up their four-game series with another 6:05 p.m. PT start on Friday night. Tacoma is scheduled to start left-hander Dillon Overton (1-1, 8.22), while El Paso will turn to righty Matt Magill (3-4, 4.11).
