PORTLAND, ME â Eastern League President Joseph McEacharn has announced his selections for the Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending April 18, 2004:
Norwich Navigators third baseman Mike Cervenak has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending April 18th. The 5'11" 180 lb. native of New Boston, Michigan is batting .405 with four doubles, four home runs, six walks, eight RBI and nine runs scored through the first 10 games of the season. The 27-year old, in his fourth season with the Navigators, drove in the game winning run in the âGators 7-6 comeback win over the New Britain Rock Cats on April 17th and blasted three home runs in a doubleheader against the Altoona Curve on April 14th. Cervenak was acquired by the San Francisco Giants from the New York Yankees in the Rule 5 Minor League Draft on December 16, 2002.

Francisco Cruceta, a right-handed pitcher for the Akron Aeros, is the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 18th. After two starts the 22-year old hurler is 1-0 with nine strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. In his first start of the season, the 6'2", 180 lb. Cruceta struck out six batters and gave up one unearned run on five hits and a walk in seven innings of work, to earn a no-decision against the Reading Phillies at Canal Park. In his second start of the season the La Vega, Dominican Republic native was dominant, surrendering only one hit and striking out three batters in seven shutout innings to earn his first win of the season against the Harrisburg Senators at Akron. Cruceta was acquired by the Cleveland Indians in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 28, 2002.
