Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry News Release

LAWTON, OKLA- About forty Eisenhower High School students were greeted Friday afternoon in the library by Guards Brandon Dean, DeAnthony Bowden and Assistant Coach Greg Minor.

Minor, Dean, and Bowden spoke on hard work, goal setting, and the importance of a good education.

Kids asked many questions from pre-game jitters to how hard do they have to work. Students even had the chance to re-enact one of the plays, the Phoenix.

Asst. Coach Minor told the students when he was a young boy, he worked 4-6 hours every day in the summer so he would be equal to his peers when basketball season came around.

Dean touched on making the right decisions. He told the students to be your own person and believe in yourself.

Bowden spoke of perseverance. He told his story of an injury that occurred when he was younger. The injury affected him years later causing him to lose feeling on the left side of his body. Because his spleen and diaphragm were hurt, doctors told Bowden he would never play basketball again. But because of his passion for the game and life, he worked hard to become what he is today.

Special Ed History teacher, Phil Zaninelli said, "Having them speak is really an inspiration to them. It's really good for them to hear them speak about making the right choices to be successful."

"It is very good for the students to hear that the players and coach have an education. The students now have a real life connection," said Assistant Principal Jacquetta Haygood.

After speaking, students and teachers took a group picture, and players signed autographs.

The Cavs will be at Geronimo Road Elementary School Thursday, Jan. 31 for the Cavs "Read to Achieve" program.
