JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals scored all five runs in the eighth inning to move past the Vero Beach Dodgers and go onto a 5-1 victory at Roger Dean Stadium.
Palm Beach (31-30) collected four hits in the inning against Dodgers reliever Julio Pimentel (0-5), after starter Alberto Bastardo and reliever Wesley Wright shut out the Cardinals for the first seven innings. Bastardo allowed five hits, walked one and struck out four in his five innings of work.
Matt Dryer opened the flood gates by lining a double down the left field line, scoring Juan Lucena, who reached on a fielding error by Dodgers shortstop David Nicholson. The Dodgers have committed seven errors in the first two games of the series. Joe Mather provided the other key hit with a two-run single, scoring Ryan Barthelemy and Dryer.
Cardinals right-hander Mitchell Boggs, pitched well enough to win tonight, allowing only one run over seven innings, but left in the eighth inning trailing, 1-0. Boggs picked up a victory in his other two starts, when pitching over six innings.
Southpaw reliever Troy Cate (2-1) held the Dodgers scoreless over the last two innings to pick-up his second victory of the season.
