Eighth Inning Errors Lead to Bums Loss

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(24-42) were locked in a pitcher's duel with the Washington Wild Things(37-30) but fell by a final score of 3-1, dropping their tenth straight game.

With two outs in the second inning, Kenny Peoples-Walls drove in the first run of the game for Washington. In the bottom of the third, Josh Hauser led off with a single up the middle then moved to second on a successful sacrifice bunt by Orlando Rivera. Jeff DeBlieux stepped up and ripped a triple down the right field line, scoring Hauser, and tying the game at one. It took until the eighth but Washington retook the lead, this time by two, on a two-run single by Hector Roa. He drove in Justin Bohn and James Harris, who both reached on errors.

Washington's Trevor Foss picked the win to improve to 9-4 on the year. He went eight innings, allowing one run on four hits and he struck out four. Kramer Champlin is dealt the hard-luck loss after going 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks, while fanning five. Zach Strecker earned the save with a perfect ninth inning with a strike out, his 15th of the season.

The Beach Bums and the Washington Wild Things are back at it tomorrow night for the middle game of this week's three game set. Brian Bayliss goes for the Beach Bums and Brian O'Keefe starts for Washington. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, goes on the air at 6:45pm with the Budweiser pre-game show, on 101.9- The Bay.
