D'ORAZIO NAMED OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK
Soul QB Matt D'Orazio was named Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the National Conference Championship game. D'Orazio went 17 of 25, for 184 yards, and 8 touchdowns. D'Orazio used all his weapons by hitting three different Soul receivers (Jackson, Brackins, Holmes) for touchdown passes. D'Orazio is 7-1 in the playoffs during his career as a starter and was the ArenaBowl XX MVP in 2006 with the Chicago Rush.
MANCE IS BACK
DB Brian Mance has been activated from the injured reserve and will be available to play in Virgin Mobile ArenaBowl XXII. Mance was placed on the IR on May 1st with an ankle injury. Mance is second on team in tackles with 49.5, despite only starting in the first eight games of the season. His return adds depth to the Soul's defensive backfield which has played a big role in the team's success this season.
950 IS BAYOU BOUND
The home of the Soul, 950 ESPN is packing its bags and heading down south to New Orleans to follow Soul on their championship journey. 950 ESPN will be broadcasting from Radio Row in New Orleans. On Thursday, July 24th, The Locker Room featuring Harry Mayes & Dan Schwartzman will be broadcasting from 7pm-10pm. Soul Live, hosted by Joe Krause and Ari Wolfe, will have a special broadcast in New Orleans from 10pm to 12am. The Locker Room will be on-air again on Friday, July 25th, from 7pm-10pm.
WHAT'S UP TODAY Another day off will allow the players to regain their strength and tend to any bumps and bruises they may have. The Soul are traveling to New York City tonight to present co-owner Jon Bon Jovi with the National Conference Championship trophy. The team will have dinner with Bon Jovi prior to his concert at Madison Square Garden.
HE SAID IT Head Coach Bret Munsey on his team's mental approach to the ArenaBowl: "We just have to be ready for anything, and prepare, that's the big thing. In these big games we have to stay focused because our main goal is still out there, and that is to win a championship for this city."
AROUND THE LEAGUE
The Columbus Destroyers announced Pat Sperduto as their new head coach today. Sperduto has a career coaching record of 48-41-1, and a 5-4 record in the postseason, with the Nashville Kats. "Pat brings a winning tradition to Columbus along with 14 years of experience as a player and a coach in the Arena Football League," Destroyers President Jim Renacci said.
Soul DB Mike Brown was named to the 2008 Al Lucas team was announced yesterday. To be named to the Al Lucas Hero team a player must be an active member of his community. All players named to the Al Lucas team are finalist for the 2008 Al Lucas Hero Award, which will be announced Thursday.
