
Dallas' Will Pettis Named 2008 AFL Ironman of the Year

NEW YORK - Dallas Desperados WR/DB WILL PETTIS (6-0, 200, Midwestern St.) was selected as the 2008 AFL Ironman of the Year as voted by AFL head coaches, fans, players and the Arena Football League Writers Association, the League announced today.
Pettis led the AFL for the second straight season with four Ironman of the Week selections (Weeks 3, 7, 13 and 14) and one Ironman of the Month Award (May). He also becomes the third player in AFL history to win the award in consecutive seasons.
Offensively, Pettis ranked second on the Desperados in receptions (95) and receiving touchdowns (25) and third in receiving yards (1,035). On defense, he notched 22.5 tackles, two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, and two passes defensed in 13 games.
Pettis, who garnered his fifth consecutive All-Ironman selection three weeks ago, also tied for the team lead in kickoff returns (43) and ranked second in kickoff return yards (741).
Pettis' all-around play as an Ironman was highlighted in Week 13 as he accounted for four touchdowns (3 - offense, 1 - defense) and became the first player in AFL history to throw a passing touchdown, register rushing and receiving touchdowns, and return an interception for a touchdown in a single game during the Desperados 67-41 victory over the Orlando Predators.
