Eight Musketeers Sign NLIs

Sioux City, IA - Eight members of the Sioux City Musketeers hockey team signed their national letters of intent to continue their hockey careers at the collegiate level on Wednesday.
Musketeer captain Justin Hryckowian is headed to Northeastern University when his time in junior hockey is finished. The Quebec native scored four goals and compiled ten assists in 17 games with Cedar Rapids last year. Griffin Ludtke, a defenseman bound for the University of Nebraska-Omaha, is playing in his first full season with the Musketeers after appearing in two games a year ago.
Brenden Olson will continue his hockey career at Minnesota State University in Mankato. Olson, a 2019 Clark Cup champion, is in the midst of his first season with Sioux City. An alternate captain, Olson has ten goals and 16 points in 59 career USHL games.
Gabe Blanchard, another alternate captain, is headed to UMass-Lowell after junior hockey. The left-handed shooting defenseman is in his second season with the Musketeers, having accumulated four goals and seven assists as a rookie.
Daniel Laatsch and Robby Newton are both committed to the University of Wisconsin. Laatsch, a 6'4 veteran blue-liner, played two seasons with the US National Development Team Program before arriving in Sioux City. Newton came to the Musketeers last year following a midseason trade with Cedar Rapids. He's totaled 19 points in 43 career games.
Bennett Schimek, a Providence-bound winger, played three games with Omaha last season before coming to Sioux City via trade. Kirklan Irey, a returning Musketeer and alternate captain, will continue his hockey journey at Bemidji State University. Last year Irey scored six goals and added eleven assists in 45 games.
