Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel drop the puck on their 2020-2021 regular season with a matchup on home ice against the Eastern Conference rival Muskegon Lumberjacks on Sat. Nov. 14 at 7:35 pm CT at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

This game was originally scheduled to be played on Sun. Mar. 7 but was moved up when postponements opened up this weekend for both Chicago and Muskegon.

In all-time regular-season matchups, Chicago is 29-22-2-0 versus the Lumberjacks with a 15-16-3-0 mark as the home team. The Steel split the season series with the Lumberjacks last season, recording a 2-2-0-0 mark. Muskegon was one of only two teams to defeat the Steel twice in 2019-2020.

In their lone preseason contest, the Steel captured a 7-5 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers at Resch Center on October 24. Defenseman Lukas Gustafsson and forward Jackson Blake led the scoring attack with a goal and an assist apiece. Erik Middendorf, Jack Harvey, Josh Doan, Quinn Finley and Joe Miller added markers for the road victory while netminder Nick Haas turned away 38 Gambler shots to earn the exhibition win.

Chicago returns its club leader in assists from a season ago, forward Sean Farrell. The Hopkinton, Mass., native registered 41 helpers for a share of the USHL lead. Farrell tallied three points (1G, 2A) in four contests against Muskegon last season. The Montreal Canadiens selected Farrell in the 4th Round (#124 Overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Muskegon enters Saturday's matchup with a 1-1-0-0 record in two games this season. In their most recent outing, the Lumberjacks fell by a 4-2 score to the Gamblers on Nov. 7 at Resch Center in Wisconsin. Jacob Guevin and Jack Williams tallied goals in the loss while Jan Skorpik made 36 saves between the pipes.

Muskegon's top scorer from the 2019-20 season, Danil Guschin, returns to the Muskegon lineup for his third USHL campaign. The Russian-born forward was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the 3rd Round (#76 Overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft after registering 47 points (22G, 25A) for Muskegon a year ago.

Both the Steel and Lumberjacks were in playoff position last season when the season was canceled in mid-March. Chicago led the USHL with 83 points at the time of the stoppage, while Muskegon was in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 47 points.

Chicago is coming off the heels of the most successful showing at the NHL Draft in the 20-year history of the franchise. In total, eight players with Chicago Steel ties were selected including three players that are expected to play big roles for the Steel in the 2020-2021 season.
