Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Indians expect to draw their eight millionth fan to Victory Field this week as the Tribe returns to Indy to begin a seven-game homestand. Entering Thursday's game, the Indians are 12,598 away from reaching the eight million fan mark since Victory Field opened on July 11, 1996.

The Indians will honor the eight millionth fan with a customized Indians "8 Millionth Fan" jersey, a 2010 season ticket package and the honor of throwing out a ceremonial first pitch before the game.

The Tribe face their division-rivals the Louisville Bats Thursday at 7 p.m. Based on advanced ticket sales, it is most likely the Indians will reach the eight million fan mark for Friday's 7:15 p.m. game against Louisville. Friday's game also features a spectacular post-game fireworks show.

Last season the Indians enjoyed their best regular season attendance since 2000, drawing 606,166 fans. The Indians have averaged 8,183 fans per game through 54 home dates played this season, an increase of 4% compared to the first 54 home dates played in 2008.

Over the past 15 home games, the Indians have averaged more than 10,000 fans per game. During an 8-day stretch from July 20-27 the Indians drew a total of 87,089 fans which marked the highest-attended 8-game homestand in Victory Field history.

Less than 2-1/2 weeks remain in the Indians 2009 home season which concludes on Labor Day weekend with back-to-back Fireworks Nights on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5.

Tickets for all remaining home games are on sale now at IndyIndians.com, the Victory Field Box Office at 501 W. Maryland Street and through Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000.
