Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that outfielder Aharon Eggleston has been signed for the 2011 season.

Eggleston, 29, batted .331 in 86 games with the Goldeyes last season and added three home runs and 31 RBI. He also scored 64 runs, which was second on the team behind Juan Diaz.

"He's one of the premiere outfielders in the league," Forney said. "He battled through some injuries last year, but if you look at his track record, the numbers speak for themselves. He's improved every year in terms of his plate discipline and strike zone discipline."

Eggleston has hit over .300 in five of his six professional seasons, the exception being 2006 when he hit .251 with the Edmonton Cracker-Cats. He led the Northern League in hits in 2008 with 126 and 2009 with 123 while with the Kansas City T-Bones.

Eggleston has played all six of his professional seasons in Independent baseball. A product of Southern Arkansas University, Eggleston played two seasons in Edmonton (2005-2006), three years in Kansas City (2007-2009) and 10 games in 2009 with the York Revolution of the Atlantic League.

With the addition of all-star centre fielder Jonathan Wyatt, Eggleston will move to left field from his primary centre field position. Eggleston started 85 games in centre field last season, but missed 13 games with a hamstring injury.

"Aharon and I talked last year about moving him to one of the corner outfield positions to protect his hamstring and back," Forney said. "I don't think he's unfamiliar to playing one of the corner outfield positions. We look forward to him playing left field and batting somewhere near the top of the order for us."

The Goldeyes now have 10 players signed for the 2011 season, including three pitchers and seven position players.

Fish Food: Forney also announced today that the Goldeyes have released the playing rights to outfielder Dee Brown, designated hitter Juan Diaz and outfielder Justin Justice, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon playing winter ball in Colombia.

Season tickets and nine-game mini packs for the 2011 season are available by calling the Goldeyes office at 982-BASE (2273) or visiting www.goldeyes.com.
