Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
The Florida State League has announced that Dunedin Blue Jays outfielder Eduard Pinto has been named the league's Player of the Week for the week of May 7-13.
Pinto slashed .476/.542/.714 during the week, picking up at least one hit in all six Blue Jays games. He knocked four extra base hits during the stretch, including launching what would prove to be a game-winning two-run home run in the seventh inning of Dunedin's comeback win over Fort Myers on May 10th. Currently on an eight-game hitting streak, the longest by a Blue Jay this season, Pinto has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games.
Acquired from Texas in a July 2017 swap for reliever Jason Grilli, Eduard leads the Florida State League with a .410 average in the month of May. Consistently one of the hardest batters to strike out in Minor League Baseball, Pinto has more walks (139) than strikeouts (133) in his career. In 2018, he has the fewest at-bats per strikeout (17.8) among all A-level batters and the third fewest in all of Minor League Baseball.
Pinto will share honors with Clearwater's Bailey Falter, the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the same period. Falter struck out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while allowing no earned runs.
