
Two-Way Prospect Brendan McKay Promoted to Stone Crabs

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Rays' two-way prospect Brendan McKay has been promoted to the Charlotte Stone Crabs and is set to make his Charlotte Sports Park debut Monday.
Tampa Bay's first round pick in 2017, McKay posted a 1.09 ERA while allowing just eight hits in 24.2 innings for Low-A Bowling Green. At the plate, McKay drew 28 walks in 21 games, reaching base at a .484 clip.
Selected with the fourth overall pick last summer, the former Louisville star was ranked as the No. 25 prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, and No. 39 by Baseball America.
The highest draft pick in Louisville history, McKay was the unanimous National Player of the Year in 2017, winning the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy. He hit .328 with 28 home runs and 132 RBI in 189 games for the Cardinals over three seasons. On the mound, the Darlington, Pa. native went 32-10 with a 2.23 ERA, striking out 391 batters in 315 innings.
McKay will start his Stone Crabs' tenure during the team's four-game series with the Lakeland Flying Tigers Monday. All four games begin at 6:35 p.m. at Charlotte Sports Park.
