Edmonton's Winning Streak Hits Seven

July 4, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Calgary, AB - Foothills Stadium in Calgary has been very, very good to the Edmonton Capitals. They've yet to play a game there this season in which they've failed to reach double digits when it comes to hits. The Caps pounded out another sixteen hits on their way to an impressive 15 - 5 victory Sunday afternoon. Edmonton racked up fourteen singles and a pair of home runs in the rout.

Larry Bigbie put the Capitals on the board with a solo home run in the top of the first inning and then Calgary actually built up a 5 - 1 lead before the Caps bats came alive. Cliff Brumbaugh managed his league leading twelfth home run of the season and added five RBI to take the league lead in that statistical category as well. He has 45 RBI so far this season with seven games remaining in the first half.

Chris Little was strong on the mound for Edmonton striking out six batters in five innings of work to earn the win. That's a seven game winning streak for Edmonton and Calgary has now set a franchise record with their current ten game losing streak including the last six games against the Capitals.

Edmonton's record improves to 23 - 15 but the Chico Outlaws won't let any team make up any ground on them in the standings. The Outlaws had a five game winning streak and a six game lead in the first half standings heading into Sunday night's action.

The Capitals will now play their next twelve games on the schedule at home at TELUS Field. They'll start a five game series on Tuesday against the Tijuana Cimarrones. It's the first time a professional sports team from Mexico City will play a regular season league game in the City of Edmonton. It'll be a Fiesta Night on Tuesday July 6th with sombrero giveaways, Mexican food and entertainment. Plus, Edmonton Eskimos starting quarterback Ricky Ray will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
