Toros Score 7 Unanswered to Beat Yuma 8-6

Yuma, AZ - The Tucson Toros scored the final 7 runs in their ballgame in Yuma to defeat the Scorpions 8-6. The win solidified a split of the 2-game series as the Toros will head home for a Star Spangled Independence Day at Hi Corbett Field.

The Scorpions jumped out to a sizeable lead early, with the Toros trailing 6-1 after 5 innings. Tucson did damage in the top of the 6th, tying up the game with a 5 run rally. In the inning pitcher James Garcia hit a pinch hit 2-run home run. SS Ryan Priddy also added a 2-run shot for his team leading 6th home run of the season. Tucson pushed the go ahead run across in the 7 th and tacked on an insurance run in the top of the 9th to give them an 8-6 lead.

Reliever Jesse Orosco Jr. earned his first win in a Toros uniform with 2 scoreless innings. RHP Andrew Snowdon threw a 1-2-3 8th and Closer Emiliano Fruto saved his 6th game of the year by fanning the side in the 9th. The trio combined for 7 punchouts and just 1 baserunner allowed in 4 innings of work.

RF Francisco Plasencia and LF Lino Garcia each had a single to extend their hitting streaks to 13 and 7 games respectively.

The Toros will return home for the 4th of July when they will kick off a 5-game homestand with a Star Spangled Spectacular fireworks extravaganza following their 7:00 p.m. game against Yuma on Sunday.
