Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

The San Angelo Colts held a 3-2 lead until the seventh inning when the Edinburg Coyotes plated three runs off of two San Angelo pitchers and took game one of the series with a 5-3 victory Saturday night at Foster Field. The Coyotes are now 16-0 to start the inagural season of United League Baseball.

Julio Ruiz picked up his first career victory at Foster Field after several rough outings in 2004 and 2005 as a member of the Edinburg Roadrunners. Ruiz (4-0) chalked up his league high fourth win of the season pitching seven strong innings allowing only one earned run in the process while striking out a pair of Colts.

Edinburg fought back from a 2-0 deficit after San Angelo scored two unearned runs off of Ruiz in the first inning. Jose Olmeda continued his torrid offensive pace grabbing a hit in his 16th straight game by catapulting a ball deep over the left field wall in the top of the third for his league leading ninth home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2. Olmeda has had at least one base hit in each of the Coyotes first 16 games.

The game stayed tied until the bottom of the fourth inning when San Angelo's third baseman Jason Crosland jacked his sixth homerun of the year over the left field wall to give the Colts a 3-2 lead.

Edinburg responded with 3 runs in the seventh inning including Olmeda's third RBI of the game on a ground out to second base. Edwar Ramirez struck out two in the ninth for his league leading seventh save.
