Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

The Edinburg Coyotes fought hard for their 17th straight win to begin the 2006 season. The Coyotes scored two runs in the 10th inning Saturday night on RBI hits from Jermy Acey and Jose Olmeda, to beat the San Angelo Colts 4-2 at Foster Field.

In a game that at first glance at the box score, one would not think pitchers duel. This game for the first 7 innings was just that. Alejandro Rodriguez for the Colts and Eric Montoya for the Coyotes were both brilliant both receiving no decisions. Rodriguez allowed no runs and scattered six hits, while striking out six and walking one in his first start as a San Angelo Colt.

Montoya received his first no-decision of 2006 despite pitching into the eighth inning with a one run lead. Montoya pitched 7.1 innings allowing two earned runs on seven San Angelo hits.

Edinburg rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the eighth inning. Eddie Lara drove in Eric Gonzalez with an RBI infield single that was hit over the head of San Angelo reliever James Beaver tying the ball game at 1-1. The next batter was catcher Robinson Cancel and he hammered a ball past the first baseman Kevin Bass to drive in Jose Olmeda from third to give Edinburg their first lead of 2-1

The lead didn't last long as the Colts scored on an RBI double by catcher Tony Sanguenetti to tie the game 2-2. The Colts would leave the bases loaded in the eighth inning.

The Coyotes did not hesitate in the 10th inning to get on the scoreboard. Eric Gonzalez led off the 10th inning with his fourth double of the season putting him into scoring position with no-one out. Jermy Acey then smashed the 2-2 pitch from San Angelo reliever Jordan Brantley past a diving Tyrone Pendergrass in left center field for an RBI triple giving the Coyotes a 3-2 lead. Jose Olmeda, who extended his season long hitting streak to 17 games with a double in the eighth, added a run of insurance with an RBI single to right field scoring Jermy Acey making the score 4-2 Edinburg.

Julio Castro (2-0) pitched a scoreless ninth and picked up the victory. Edinburg wraps up the series with San Angelo on Sunday at 7:05. Edinburg sends Ryan Harris (3-0) to the mound to square off against San Angelo southpaw Mark Goodman.
