Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers took down the Gastonia Grizzlies by a final count of 6-2 on Wednesday night. Edenton (3-1) won its third straight, while Gastonia los its second contest against the Steamers.

Randy Dobnak earned the win for the Teal and Black. Dobnak (3-2) hurled seven strong innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits while walking one and fanning four batters.

Corey Sikes took the loss for the Grizzlies. Sikes (0-1) surrendered four runs on as many hits with one strikeout in one inning of work.

The Steamers opened the scoring in the bottom of the third. Shortstop Tyler Ammerman led off the frame with a double, and Richie Cunningham brought him in with a single in the next at bat to put the Clams up 1-0.

Edenton added another tally in the sixth. Tony Rosselli started the frame off with a double, and two batters later, Stefan Van Horn double the Steamers' lead with a single up the middle.

Two errors by the Clams in the top of the seventh proved costly, as Gastonia knotted the score up at 2-2. Sammy Taormina bounced a ball to short and Ammerman lost the ball off his glove to put a runner on with no outs. Nathaniel Maggio walked in the next at bat, and Harris Yett laid down a sacrifice bunt to put both Grizzlies in scoring position. Matt Simmons followed with a sacrifice fly to left to score Taormina and move Maggio to third, and after the third baseman Aaron Aucker let the throw in skip through his legs, Maggio came home to tie the score.

The Steamers responded with a two-out rally to retake the lead in the bottom of the inning. Trey Hair sparked the surge with a single, and Aucker put the Steamers up by two with a shot over the wall in center. Rosselli kept the rally rolling with a double down the right field line, and Thatcher Coleman launched the second homerun of the inning to give the Clams a 6-2 advantage.

The Edenton Steamers hit the road to play the Petersburg Generals on Thursday night. They return home for back-to-back games against the Peninsula Pilots and Holly Springs Salamanders. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
