July 7, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.-The SwampDogs had the tying runner on base with no outs in the ninth, but he was left on third base as Fayetteville fell to the Morehead City Marlins 8-7 late Thursday at The Swamp.
The Marlins jumped out to an early four run lead in the top of the first before the SwampDogs answered with two runs in the bottom half of an inning that took three hours to play due to lightning delays.
The SwampDogs stuck around throughout the ball game, matching the last four Marlins runs almost immediately. However, the SwampDogs didn't recover from the early deficit until the eighth on a pair of unearned runs.
Down by one in the bottom of the ninth, Kieton Rivers (Coastal Carolina) singled to start the inning. He moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a ground out back to the mound. Tyler Tharp (VMI), who had two RBIs, struck out swinging to end the game.
The SwampDogs are on the road for the final two games before the All-Star break. The 2016 Coastal Plain League All-Star Game is in Fayetteville on Sunday and Monday with the gates opening at 5pm on Sunday for the Fan-Fest. Monday night the gates open at 6:00pm, first pitch of the All-Star Game is at 7:05pm. Purchase tickets by calling 910-426-5900 or for more information visit www.goswampdogs.com/tickets.
