South Georgia Wildcats News Release
Albany, GA - The South Georgia Wildcats signed one of the af2's premier pass rushers, Ed Wangler. Wangler will anchor the Wildcats defensive line as he did in Macon for the past two seasons.
Last year, Wangler ranked fourth in the league in sacks and recorded 13 sacks on the season. He also ranked seventh in the league with 11 more tackles for loss. Wangler arrives in Albany after being cut by the AFL's Colorado Crush just days before their season began.
"With the rule changes this year (free substitution), we expect Ed to be even more of a force on the defensive side of the ball. He'll also be an experienced leader on this team which well help the younger linemen immensely," said Head Coach Derek Stingley.
Other roster moves by the Wildcats include the activation of lineman Courtney Young, a 3-year af2 veteran from Indiana.
"Young is one of the best two-way linemen in this league," said Assistant Head Coach Randy Leindecker. "Last year he didn't allow a sack on offense while he constantly harassed the opposing quarterback on defense."
The Wildcats also completed two trades, sending defensive back Elliot Powell to the Louisville Fire for future considerations and lineman Mike Lane to the Mahoning Valley Thunder for future considerations as well.
The Wildcats play their first game of 2007 on Saturday, March 31st against the Arkansas Twisters at the Albany Civic Center on Cooper Tire Field. For ticket information, call the Wildcats at (229) 435-0205.
