
Eastern League Names Players of the Week

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending July 19th:
Erie SeaWolves third baseman Santo De Leon has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending July 19th. The 25-year old had an outstanding week for the SeaWolves, hitting .421 (8-for-19) with three doubles, one triple, three home runs, five RBI, five runs scored, one walk and a 1.158 slugging percentage in five games. The 6'5", 235 lb. slugger had at least one hit in each of the games he played in last week and hit a home run in three straight games from July 16th-18th at Binghamton, including going 3-for-4 with one double, one home run, two RBI and three runs scored in a 10-5 win on Thursday night. De Leon, who is a native of Azua, Dominican Republic, has reached base at least once in each of the 14 games he has played in with the SeaWolves during the month of July and is hitting .347 (17-for-49) with six doubles, one triple, three homers, 12 RBI, nine runs scored and three walks during the month. Santo, who hit .278 with 11 doubles, seven home runs, 25 RBI and 25 runs scored in 44 games while making his Double-A debut with the SeaWolves last season, was signed by the Detroit Tigers as a non-drafted free agent on June 17, 2003.
Brad Holt, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Binghamton Mets, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 19th. The 6'4", 194 lb. hurler made a pair of starts for the B-Mets last week and posted a record of 2-0 with 14 strikeouts and a 1.32 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched. Holt made his first appearance of the week on Monday afternoon at New Britain Stadium and pitched seven shutout innings in Binghamton's 14-1 win. He struck out seven batters and walked one while giving up just four singles to earn his first career Double-A victory. The 22-year old also earned the win in his second start of the week, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven batters in 6.2 innings of work in a 4-2 win over Erie on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. The Albemarle, North Carolina native has made four starts for the B-Mets in the month of July and has a record of 2-2 with 30 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched. Brad, who entered the year ranked by Baseball America as the 4th best prospect in the Mets organization, was selected by the New York Mets in the supplemental first round of the 2008 draft as the 33rd overall pick after posting a record of 11-1 with 95 strikeouts and a 3.18 ERA in 93.1 innings pitched as a junior at UNC-Wilmington.
