PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending June 11th:
Trenton Thunder first baseman Shelley Duncan has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending June 11th. Duncan, who blasted a league-high 34 home runs for Trenton last season, had an excellent week for the Thunder, batting .429 (9-for-21) with five homers, nine RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base and a 1.143 slugging percentage in six games. The 26-year old had multiple hits in four of the five games he played in last week, including finishing the week with back-to-back two-home run games on Saturday and Sunday against the Reading Phillies. The 6'5", 215 lb. slugger enters the week as the league leader in home runs (15) and extra-base hits (34) and is also ranked among the leaders in doubles (19-2nd), slugging percentage (.543-2nd) and RBI (39-tied 3rd). Shelley was selected by the New York Yankees in the second round of the June 2001 draft out of the University of Arizona.

Ronald Bay, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Akron Aeros, is the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 11th. The 22-year old made one start for the Aeros last week and was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In his first and only appearance of the week the 6'2", 160 lb. hurler struck out four batters and walked two while tossing a complete game two-hit shutout against the Connecticut Defenders at Canal Park on Friday. Bay, a native of Houston, Texas, has made 12 starts for the Aeros this season and has a record of 4-3 with 58 strikeouts and a 3.30 ERA in 71 innings of work. Ronald, who was 3-3 with a 4.76 ERA in eight games with the Aeros last season, was acquired by the Cleveland Indians in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on March 29, 2005 after originally being drafted by the Cubs in the 25th round of the June 2002 draft out of Angelina Junior College in Texas.
