Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
William Collazo tossed a complete-game shutout and Jorge Padilla had an inside-the-park home run, helping the Binghamton Mets to a 2-0 win over the New Britain Rock Cats in the series opener at NYSEG Stadium Tuesday. The win is Binghamton's fifth in their last six games.
Binghamton (28-36) got both of their runs in the fourth. Padilla began the inning with his inside-the-park blast to right-center off Errol Simonitsch, giving Binghamton a 1-0 advantage. After allowing a single to Michel Abreu, Simonitsch (5-5) threw a wild pitch, allowing Abreu to advance to second before Jay Caligiuri drove him in with a base hit to right. Simonitsch also went the distance, allowing eight hits over eight innings.
However, New Britain (26-33) couldn't solve Collazo, who allowed just five hits, three of them on the infield. Collazo (6-4) finished his third career shutout with a flourish, striking out Danny Matienzo to end the ballgame. The lefthander walked one and struck out five, winning his third consecutive start.
Wednesday, the B-Mets play the second game of their three-game series with New Britain. Mike Pelfrey (1-1, 2.83) gets the ball for Binghamton against Adam Harben (1-3, 3.30) of New Britain. Game time is 7:00 from NYSEG Stadium with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
