East Slams West in All-Star Game

GENEVA, Ill. - With 13 runs in the first two innings, the East Division All-Stars set some records and hammered the West Division, 18-2, on Tuesday night in front of 7,528 fans at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark during the Midwest League All-Star Game.

South Bend's Gerson Montilla set the scoring trail for the East Division as he cracked a solo home run with one out in the first against Burlington's Drew Granier. Two batters later, the Loons' O'Koyea Dickson ripped a two-run blast to put the East up by three. Fort Wayne's Austin Hedges also cracked a two-run double to cap a five-run first inning.

In the second, the East Division picked up an eight-spot against Peoria's Kyler Burke and the Kernels' Ty Kelley. Steven Moya had one of the highlights in the inning as he blasted a three-run triple off Kelley. Hedges singled in a run while Tyler Goeddel from the Hot Rods smacked a two-run dinger to give the East a 13-0 advantage.

It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth when the West Division picked up their two tallies. Beloit's Jhon Goncalves singled home a run and scored on a wild pitch. The East added four more runs in the ninth as they set the record for most runs scored by a single team in a Midwest League All-Star. The two teams combined also broke an All-Star record for most total runs which was 17. For the Cougars, Lane Adams, Danny Mateo and Jorge Bonifacio all ended up hitless while Matt Ridings struck out the only batter that he faced.
