Quakes Hold Five Draft Picks

The San Jose Earthquakes have five picks in the upcoming MLS SuperDraft, which is being held on Thursday, Jan. 14 in Philadelphia and will be broadcast live on ESPN 2 at 11 a.m. PT. The Quakes have the third overall pick, three second round choices (picks 19, 28 and 30) and a third round selection (pick 37). The third overall pick for the Quakes is the highest pick the franchise has had since the 2001 draft.

Quakes Technical Staff Visits adidas Player Combine

The San Jose Earthquakes coaching staff and general manager of soccer operations John Doyle are on hand at the 2010 MLS adidas Player Combine in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The combine continues through Tuesday, Jan. 12 and the Quakes technical staff then heads to Philadelphia for the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.

Quakes Host Viewing Party for 2010 MLS SuperDraft

The San Jose Earthquakes will host a 2010 MLS SuperDraft viewing party at the Britannia Arms at Almaden on Thursday, January 14. The party will begin at 10:45 a.m. with the draft kicking off at 11 a.m. PT. The event will include a raffle for an autographed 2009 home jersey and attendees will also have an exclusive first look at the Earthquakes 2010 home jersey.

Quakes Add Assistant Coach Mark Watson to Staff

The San Jose Earthquakes announced that they have added Mark Watson to their technical staff as an assistant coach. Watson was most recently an assistant with the Canadian national team and also filled in as an interim assistant coach for the New England Revolution during the 2009 MLS Cup Playoffs. Watson has been an assistant in the Canadian national team system since 2004, coaching with the U-20, U-23 and senior national teams. He spent time as a player and assistant coach with the Charleston Battery of USL-1 from 2002-2009. He played for the team from 2002-04, helping them win the league championship in 2003. He finished the 2009 season with Charleston before spending the playoffs with the Revolution, following the departure of Revs assistant coach Paul Mariner. The former defender and captain appeared in 78 matches for the Canadian national team, scoring three goals. During his playing career, he played in England with Watford from 1993-95 and came to MLS in its inaugural season in 1996, splitting time with the Columbus Crew and New England Revolution. Watson played with the Seattle Sounders briefly in 1997 and then went abroad to Sweden from 1997-98 to play with Osters IF, where current Quakes forward Ryan Johnson played in 2007. He played in the second division in England with Oxford and Oldham before returning to the United States in 2001. He spent the 2001 season in MLS with D.C. United.

San Jose Adds McDonald to Senior Roster

The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that the club has moved defender Brandon McDonald to their senior roster. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Glendale, Ariz. native joined the Earthquakes and had a breakout year in 2009, starting all 18 games in which he appeared, while scoring one goal and notching one assist. McDonald was one of the keys to the Quakes solid second half in 2009, earning a starting spot in the central defense. He paired with Jason Hernandez to form one of the toughest central defense tandems in the league. McDonald was named to the roster pool and called into January camp for the United States Men's National Team in their preparation for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa in June. Players arrived this week in Los Angeles for camp which continues through the Saturday, Jan. 23 friendly against Honduras at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Quakes 2010 Season Tickets

The San Jose Earthquakes have significantly reduced season ticket prices for the 2010 Major League Soccer season. Season tickets start as low as $204. Season ticket prices have been reduced in all sections; Premier Midfield will now be $40 per game ($50 in 2009), Center Circle $30 per game ($35 in 2009), Sideline $20 per game ($30 in 2009), Goal View $15 per game ($20 in 2009) and Supporters Section $12 per game ($18 in 2009). The Quakes have also created a number of new features and benefits for season ticket holders next year. A family section has been added inside the stadium, and the Supporters Section has been expanded to create an even greater home field advantage. Season Ticket Holders will additionally have access to the exclusive tailgate parking lot. Corona Cove seats will now be available as a season ticket option, and an extra row of NetSuite VIP On-field seats have been added for next season. Season Ticket Holders will also have first priority to purchase Earthquakes playoff tickets and tickets for international games. They will receive a 15 percent discount on game day merchandise, invitations to exclusive events, and priority rights to seats in the new stadium. The one thing that is not exclusive to Season Ticket Holders is savings.
